EVENT: FOOD, WINE AND HISTORY! Randall Heskett and Joel Butler will offer groundbreaking news explaining what we now know about wine’s origins, and how wine marked the beginning of civilization, culture and religion. During the days of Moses, Abraham, and Jesus, religious ritual centered on wine and the mystical powers worshippers believed it possessed. Fascinated by the long tradition found in the Holy Land, wine expert Joel Butler and biblical scholar Randall Heskett teamed up to uncover how the millennia old wine making practices transformed the ancient Middle East and how it affects religious worship today. In this wide-ranging narrative, the authors travel back to beginning of Genesis to explore how wine rose to become the center of mankind’s spiritual life. Weaving together the history of ancient vineyards with passages from the Old and New Testament, Divine Vintage takes the reader on a remarkable odyssey through Biblical wine country. Full of vivid descriptions of the terrain and ancient grapes, as well as intoxicating archaeological and scriptural discoveries, this is a compelling journey into the spiritual heart of the Judeo-Christian religion. Butler and Heskett also bring the journey up to the present day, traveling to meet the master vintners reestablishing forgotten vineyards and recreating the wines of this fascinating era with ancient techniques. Richly illustrated and with enchanting tasting notes of regional wines from Israel, Jordan, Turkey, and others, this is a breathtaking look at the wines of the holy land.
