SOLD OUT: Malcolm Gladwell will discuss David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants

SOLD OUT EVENT OVERVIEW:  Rainy Day Books and Ink's Middle of the Map Fest Forum invite you to an evening with Malcolm Gladwell, whose Books The Tipping Point, Blink, and Outliers have become cultural touchstones, their ideas reshaping how millions understand the World.

This Event will celebrate the Softcover (Paperback) Publication of David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants, as Malcolm turns his attention to the surprising truth about what happens when ordinary people confront giants that include powerful opponents of all kinds—from armies and mighty warriors to disability, misfortune and oppression.  In the conversation, Malcolm will explain what he means when he says, “Giants are not what we think they are.  The same qualities that appear to give them strength are often the sources of great weakness.”  Drawing upon psychology, history, science, business, politics and sports, Malcolm will encourage an understanding that much of what is beautiful and important in our world comes from adversity and struggle, and will leave you with a fresh, new perspective on the world around us.

Ink's Middle of the Map Fest Forum (April 15 to 17, 2015) is a Convergence of Art, Tech and Culture in Kansas City.  For more information go to

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:  Malcolm Gladwell has been a staff writer with The New Yorker since 1996.  He is a former writer at the Washington Post and served as the newspaper's New York City Bureau Chief.  He has won a National Magazine Award, and in 2005 he was named one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People.  He is the author of four Books: The Tipping Point: How Little Things Make a Big Difference, Blink: The Power of Thinking without Thinking, and Outliers: The Story of Success, all of which were #1 New York Times Bestsellers.  His Book What the Dog Saw is a compilation of stories published in The New Yorker.  Gladwell graduated from the University of Toronto, Trinity College, with a degree in history.  He was born in England, grew up in rural Ontario, and now lives in New York City.

ABOUT THE NEW BOOK:  Three thousand years ago on a battlefield in ancient Palestine, a shepherd boy felled a mighty warrior with nothing more than a pebble and a sling-and ever since, the names of David and Goliath have stood for battles between underdogs and giants.  David's victory was improbable and miraculous.  He "shouldn't" have won.  Or should he? In David and Goliath, Malcolm Gladwell challenges how we think about obstacles and disadvantages, offering a new interpretation of what it means to be discriminated against, suffer from a disability, lose a parent, attend a mediocre school, or endure any number of other apparent setbacks.  David and Goliath draws upon history, psychology and powerful story-telling to reshape the way we think of the world around us.
