Hooked On Books
Hooked On Books is a childrens' literacy project that Rainy Day Books
is proud to have joined forces with in 2002. The Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri
joined forces with The Kansas City Star for the fifth annual 2003 Hooked On Books project and
continues to this day and beyond. Hooked On Books organizers are asking the public to donate children's books (for
youngsters aged birth through 14 years old) at Rainy Day Books throughout the
year. While donations will be received during the Book Drive Month of mid
September through mid October at a variety of locations around the Greater Kansas
City Area and at 25 Greater Kansas City Area Post Offices. Volunteers will also collect books at
the Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri's headquarters building at 9215
Ward Parkway. More than 100,000 books were given to area children last year
alone. The donated books are intended for children with low reading scores
in the Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas school districts. And
thanks to the generosity of the Kansas City public, as well as the support of
the Hooked on Books sponsors, organizers of this year's drive hope this
year's drive will collect even more books. The Kansas City Star
created the Hooked on Books program in 1998 as a response to an in-depth
investigation of the Kansas City, Missouri public schools. Since that time, more
than 200,000 books have gone to children who might not have access to
age-appropriate books at home. Call the Hook On Books Hotline at 913-562-5622
